RICHMOND, VA – October 19, 2004
James River Bus Lines was recently awarded a grant by the
Federal government to upgrade its safety and security
technology.
For over four years, James River has utilized a satellite
tracking system on all of its vehicles to monitor driver
performance, on-time performance, vehicle locations and
speed. With the grant, an improved system will be installed
that provides more security and customer service options.
The system includes an emergency alert button to notify
dispatchers of a potential problem and provides the vehicle
location for the authorities.
In addition, the grant provides funding for a digital
surveillance system on each motorcoach. This system will
provide video and sound recordings of driving and passenger
incidents. An important benefit is to identify driver
performance issues that can be corrected before any
incidents occur. The system will also document any passenger
actions that impact safety or security on the motorcoach.
James River Bus Lines also recently became an active member
of the “Highway Watch” program; a type of neighborhood watch
program for the North American roadways. The company safety
director was recently certified to train all James River
drivers and chauffeurs in recognizing potential security
situations and knowing how to report it.
James River Bus Lines has always been a leader in
transportation safety and passenger satisfaction. Although
its safety record is among the best in the country, the
three systems enhance James River’s ability to improve
safety and security for its passengers as well as North
America.
James River Bus Lines is a full service Motorcoach Tour and
Travel Organization serving the Eastern United States for
over 75 years.
